Would anyone ever think about taking a dragon without the magic upgrade? Or would you always take the magic upgrade?

Personally, I would always take the magic upgrade, unless something prevented me.

I was just thinking of taking 2 drangons into a game. Normally I take a Dragon with magic and a stone giant for 725 points. But I was wondering if 2 normal dragons for 800 would be better. What do you think?

What point level are we talking about?

My gut reaction is to stick with the one dragon and a stone giant. The giant doesn't have quite the damage output of the dragon, but it is still Extremely Hard to Kill and may not draw as much attention as 2 Dragons would.

It's a 1500 point game, it's just being flying monsters they are just so much more menoverable then anything else. And imagine the destructive power of 2 dragons?

Yes, they are much faster than the giant, the dragon also has a higher defense. Even so, I would be hesitant to put more than half my points into 2 models. Extremely Hard to Kill monsters can take an awful lot of punishment, but at the end of the day they are still going to go down faster than a couple of big blocks of heavy infantry will.

Of course, it is only a game. Give it a try and let us know how it goes. Maybe 2 dragons will be a holy terror on your enemy. What armies do you expect to face anyway?

The armies tend to be Gondor and upto now just one dragon has worked really well. But imagine 2 flying around charging into flanks and rears?

Where can I find the profile for a "stone giant?"

Thanks.

In the War of the Ring rulebook under the Misty Mountain army list.

I'm fairly certain giving out actual stats isn't allowed (at least it isn't on most of the boards I read) but I can tell you that he is a pretty solid beater with Extremely Hard to Kill and that he isn't a hero, which makes him slow but immune to duels.
