Statues?

Wed Oct 10, 2012 10:33 am

Hey everyone

So i've been playing A LOT of Lord of the Rings Online lately. I have been incredibly inspire by some of the scenery there, particularly in the Ered Luin and i was astounded at the huge statue in Thorin's Hall. Having just seen the announcement for a bronze statuette of thorin, Gandalf and Bilbo, i really want to have a few statues of mighty warriors that dont just look like the 28mm scale models painted to look like a statue.

My question is how would i go about doing this. I have the two options - to make or buy. I am useless with sculpting with greenstuff and the like so i may need to buy.

Do you guys have any idea where i could buy something that i could put on a plinth as a statue for my terrain?

Thanks guys,

Batman of the Shire

(btw for those of you that do play LOTRO, my dwarf profile is Thostek)

Aside from general scenery sellers (like thomarillion.de), plenty of models of varying scales have been made of figures in Middle-earth.
I've got two models from an eBay seller, about twice the height of a GW model, and some are pretty cheap too.
Haven't done anything with them yet, but painting them bronze or stone will make for a quick yet nice statue!

To give some examples of easily 'statuefied' models:

Yeah i've been following Thormarilion for a while but all the good stuff seems to not be there anymore (bilbo's trolls etc)

I might buy one of the collectors models to see scale compared etc but that could be really cool as well as cost effective. The Thorin statue would be perfect from the noble collection, but its $135(au)

Have you tried aquarium stuff? There is this "Posiden" statue who looks a lot like a Dwarf, and it's a great price.

FYI - there is expected to be a 2" scale (prepainted) figures for the Hobbit. I would also expect the usual cheap board games and chess games in the marketing ploy, this should yeild you some options for making statues that are of larger scale but not epicly so. That is if you can wait for Hobbit stuff to start hitting stores in november (for black friday and christmas season sales).
