How this mechanic came into being I don't know.

You shoot at my man who is obscured by another of my own men. So he gets a cover save?? WTF!!
In the way rolls make so much more sense.

All true, and sometimes it makes little sense, but it still doesn't take reading the rules more than once to see that, and that was the point you originally made that I responded to. I will never pretend GW games make total sense, but then again some realism has to be sacrified for balance (though they clearly struggle with this ratio on all fronts).

cereal_theif wrote:And if you practice on either PC or Games Console you get used to the control but on pc I can do much more efficient button programming. Such as when playing FPS games I bind the buying commands to the number pad so I don't have to enter hte buy menu. This means that while you are still buying items I am half way across the map. I have a button that does jump crouch and yet on your console you have to press jump and hten crouch. I can go on

But that's the thing; initially you said it as if it were a matter of fact, but the things you describe above as good things are many of the things that I and other console gamers hate. To each their own, that's the moral of the story.

Well regardless if someone likes M+KB or not, they still have the opportunity to plug in a game pad or xbox controller or whatever.

PCs have better graphics, better frames per second and way better controls

but because there are a better level of top player, better everything you could ask for except packaging there is a chip in the shoulder of the console gamers. There is also the ignorance. People who truely believe that xbox has better graphics... LOL!!

What constitutes "better" graphics and controls? You think they're good because you value the numbers and techincal data better - but that doesn't mean you're the ultimate judge of all things aesthetic. I find value in cell-shaded graphics and even poor quality graphics (from last-gen games like Silent Hill which obscure your view on purpose) precisely because they add to the interactive experience - just because the pc can use better graphics cards doesn't mean that console games don't look "better" (for other reasons) for other people. Same thing with controls - I hate controls from the computer, don't like them one bit. Just because you think they're better (or, God forbid, think they require more "skill") doesn't mean that this is true for every other person as well - I know great computer gamers who can't beat great console gamers, who's better? Neither, they each have their own skillset because they are better at doing certain things - this doesn't translate to one of them being universally "better" at gaming than the other.

Get off your high horse, you sound like the ignorant non-SBG players this thread was started about...

Controls sure, but that's not much opinionating that can be done about graphics; better graphics look better. Just because some guy says Morrowind had better graphics than Skyrim doesn't make his opinion correct. You can say it's in the eye of the beholder sure, but the beholder can be plain wrong, and luckily most of us know when something is a graphical improvement.

On the gaming side, I have played since the Atari 2600 days with a joystick and a single button. I have played on beefed up PC's, played nintendo, super n, n 64, game cube, x-box, 3DO, Saga, Xbox 360, PS1, PS2, PS3.... so almost every way of playing a game I have done it. And you know what, I could care less about graphics if they sacrafice game play and design. I loved GTA San Andreas (heck I loved the overhead GTA 1 and 2), but GTA4 had better graphics and was a fun game, but It didn't have half of what San Andreas had for game play. I loved Morrowind, and Loved Oblivion...Skyrim was awesome graphics wise, but I found it to be one of the wrost of the series so far, just not enough variety in the gameplay, dragons and duergar become boring after the thousandth time of killing them. The old games had that too, But I would gladly take lower graphics for more variety in monsters and more maps to explore. There are many games that fall into this categorie, I loved the first two Wizardry Games, there was almost no graphics at all to those games, but the RPG style of gameplay was awesome.
As for controls, you can train yourself to adapt to any control system, Key boards do offer a person the chace to really make a quick key for almost every action and can streamline gameplay, but without it, the games can still be played, enjoyed and are still great.

I think these two responses do enough to say my thoughts. My response was obviously alot more condecending being an arrogant old man n all ;)

Better graphics and a better machine offer a smoother gaming experience on THE SAME GAME.
Compare Halo series on pc vs console or Crysis 2 which I watched a mate play on a console and I nearly cried it looked so tacky.

But ultimately I prefere game play to graphics and so my main competative PC game is counter strike source (and more recently CS:GO which suffers from weird engine syndrome).

I wrote a SBG version of 40k which I play tested a couple of times (i'll type it up one day) and it worked well but I could not convince my pure 40k mates to play because frankly they like the simplicity of tactics in the 40k system rather than the sometimes baffling tactics and rules interplay that emerge from the SBG system.

Graphical improvement does not equal more pixels – take any number of throwback games (Scott Pilgrim, whatever) on the Xbox arcade and compare them to their contemporary counterparts that try to throw in as many pixels as possible. Does Scott Pilgrim look “worse”? I don't think so, it's all an aesthetic choice and it depends entirely on your value set (ie. do I want to the game to look X way for X reasons, or do I want to just make it look as real as possible). Aesthetic value judgments, whether in video games or paintings are never universal.

“I don't like Picasso because Cubism's graphics are too pixellated, have you seen his portraits they look nothing like Rembrandt's and aren't realistic at all.”

Geezus...

Though we should start a different topic about games and consoles, lol.
My good friend is a PC gamer...sort of he also has every console made, japan versions too so he can play more titles than what is released in the US. Now, he is a computer super geek, his house is remote everything, every light, his key board, his mouse, and he can switch from watching TV to using the same 54" screen for his computer screen...
Anyway, when Star Wars Galaxies was just coming out, he went and totally upgraded his entire system, best graphics, best motherboard, best of everything there was. And got the game. SUPER LAGG, the game was as glitchy as you can get. He felt bad for anyone who could not have done what he did. And then he still had to wait like 4 months before the game unlocked anything worth doing.
So PC games are great, but they are on a different level, they are always improving from the system up, they are the evolution of what a console will be next, and often so advanced that the PC's have to be improved to play them...

Consoles fit the need of people who cannot upgrade a computer and graphics card for $500 every 6 months. Who want to just go buy the game and be able to play today without worrying about a virus killing the computer, not enough ram, not enough storage (though alot of this is gone now) or a new windows upgrade or whatever... maintaining a PC for High Speed gaming use is not cheap or easy. So my graphics may not be on the same level as the PC version of the same title, and my console may not have the skins and maps and other fan written add ons and downloads or patches that a PC can have...but I know that my game will play on my console when I buy it and that is all that I need for now. Next gen will be the same, PC's will always have the evolution curve since they can upgrade a card any day where a console is a fixed standard in the market for a while to make it affordable... thus my $200 will go a long way... won't get me Carp in the PC gaming world.

And 40K'ers will still be hating on us Hobbit and LOTR SBG players when the next gen xbox hits.

Which was my original point because it's not really any different when someone says how much better their pc is than a console than when someone says how great 40k is over SBG.

Depends entirely on what the person wants out of the gaming system (virtual or tabletop).
