October Converting Competition

Sun Sep 30, 2012 6:34 pm

Hi all

Heres something a bit different from the monthly painting comp...
a converting competition :D

The rules:
You can enter from now until the 1st of November.
Your entries can be good, evil and anything inbetween, from a scratch sculpt to a simple arm swap, there are no limits.
I strongly recomend that the final entry is paintied as an unpainted model is pretty boring.
Work in progress and C&C can all be put in this thread (just please let me know which one is your final entry)

let the competition comence...
What we need is a few good 'taters.
What's 'taters, precious? What's 'taters, eh?
Po-tay-toes! Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew!

Looks good lord hyper, its as if the enemy has broken through the pike wal and now he's in hand to hand combat. very nice conversion :) .
Is that your final entry?

I have to say, I also like the Witch King's sword. I did the same thing, but with a Morgul Blade. Good shout!

"Then how do you explain all the dead unicorns?"

First ever competition entry!

Sorry for the poor paint job, this is a model from my earlier hobbying days - Enjoy!

I present to you my custom Captain of Minas Tirith and his Loyal Companion Boots.

I've given him a Spear + Shield off an old gondorian

A headswap with an eyepatch.

and a Bow because...why not!

I have house rules for him however I usualy have him as a captain stand in.

I'd love to paint something just for this competition but my backlog is nailed for the next month! So here is my entry, although I may need to add another picture of the rear.

Thanks Sid, the shields are from the mordor troll box set, I trimmed the spikes off and filed the corners slightly, then drilled a peep hole and filed that into shape. The picture doesn't do them much justice but on the battlefield they stand out and hold out!

Hi all, my only recent conversion is my mounted Radagast. With a dwarven and goblin army it was my first go at a mounted model! I bought the stag from Fenryll miniatures. Next I used a combination of files, drills and a dremel to hollow out Radagast. After mounting him on the stag I green-stuffed his tunic on the front spread out over the stag and similarly cut a triangle of greenstuff and draped it over the back to join up his cloak. Then I had to make a new front right leg for the stag using the metal out of the middle of a garbage bag tie and greenstuff. The staff was lengthened as I wanted the idea that as master of flora and fauna he can encourage things to grow even in the blasted wastelands that he's travelling in. It was just a roll of greenstuff that was sort of scratched etc. for a bit of texture.

Here's a side-view showing all of the modifications.

And here's a nice shot on my board so you can see the matching base:
