hobbit getting no support

Fri May 03, 2013 5:33 pm

Why do we get no support. Its like they said"lets spend thousands on the Hobbit licence, up the prices and hope hardcore fans will earn our money back but charge them for everything"As an example do we have a replacement for the mines of moria painting guide?"Of course not unless they want to pay unlike 7 years ago when we still had a chance to be saved"Now I I'm not so sure.

I called my local GW to ask if they had any LotR/hobbit events coming up, and they just tried to get me into WH or WH 40k, neither of which I have any interest in. I agree that the hobbit support is appalling. Fortunately, the community is great.

Its a darn shame there seems to be little support from GW for such a great game with (IMHO) the greatest fantasy backdrop of all time, although in a couple of stores I've visited the guys were happy to chat about it and swop paint tips etc.
I have recently invested fairly heavily in the game as my new project for 2013 and my background is really more old school type histporical gaming and RPG having never really brought in to the world of Warhammer or GW products before. It does strike me as kind of odd and I thought that maybe the reason is the revenue stream is limited in comparision to other product ranges they have and that if they own the licence to produce the figures/game then no other figure seller can?

Looking at those High elves, those are pretty nice for WHF. I don't collect it or play it, but if I did, I can see how awesome that release would be. Considering also how much those High Elf sets cost a player, I think they really need to keep the open mouthed, drooling WHF patrons staring at them til they break and make a purchase (or start saving like crazy to get what they need to buy them). It is the same with Last months Tau, those are cool sets for a 40K player, if I played that game I would all over those. We had a nice couple months with the initial release but we share this GW multiverse with the other games.
The other thing to consider is that we really do not want a lot of bad support from GW. Lousy paint guides, or rules changes that make everything obsolete, I would rather they release a few models, left us alone to send suggestions and tweaks, then gather up and give us a good article when they do have a release. Every single time they put a single page or post about Hobbit the other game players negatively bash the crap out of it and make it look like nobody plays the Hobbit or LOTR. Even if that is not true, the negative publicity is not in our favor. It is better to just have our fan made sites, talk about releases ourselves, discuss rule changes ourselves, and read the actual Tolkien texts ourselves instead of a fluff filled tome of GW's design. We are just fine.

Yes the paint splatters suck but not giving us one is even less support then before! And then there's the sudden change to metal that went completely unanounced(I will be dead before I spend 20 euro on four moria goblins)

GW is now selling 10 infantry model Warhammer boxes for £30. Thats £3 a miniature. I can't help but wonder if they secretly added gold-dust to their plastic.

It varies. The GW closest to me is run by a LOTR fanatic, it's his favourite system. The same goes for another local shop, so a lot of it comes down to the individuals.

My local store did a little for LoTR but there is nothing now except intro games. Maybe in the summer they will launch some in store Hobbit battles to kick start new players  but I'm not holding my breath going by the last few years where all the games seemed to be for WFB or 40K. Even now they are running WFB or 40K store campaigns but nothing for The Hobbit. It really is down to what interests the GW staff in each store and The Hobbit is loosing out...shame for such a good game system :x

I've also stopped buying White Dwarf as there is nothing worth read in it for The Hobbit. I can't remember the last good SBG battle report or LoTR / Hobbit painting guide appeared in there.

Its a shame as I have now decided to get ride of most of my collection as I have several WoTR armies and many many warband but no one to play against. I've played more SAGA games in 2 months than SBG in the last 6 months!!!! Sites like this are the only thing keeping my interest in the game but if I can't get games in then I'm only left with painting models. [If you've seen my painting you'll understand why I'm depressed ]

There's a rumour that the Hobbit is not making money at all that well that GW had expected - possibly even as poorly as your average Specialist Game. The poor profits wouldn't surprise me, considering how the things (prices) are. But of course, if you don't support the game because the figures don't sell, you won't get new players and no one is buying the figures...
