Na, GW doesn't care about boycotts and protests. The best thing to do is to carefully consider the prices and the quality of GW's miniatures, and compare them to other manufacturers (Gripping Beast, Perry Miniatures etc). If you feel GW doesn't offer you fair value for money, then just don't buy from them.

Eventually if enough people feel that way, and don't exhibit the blind loyalty GW has come to expect, then they'll have no choice but to take a different approach.

They don't care about boycotts because its just a few people at a time that do it. They don't care about complaint letters because nobody complains due to the fact that they think they wont be read. We need to fire email after email after email to even scratch them. But we have a weapon of great power...specialist gamers. They get even less support then us and I think all their games can't even be bought anymore. We could try boycotting and firing email/Letters at them till they give in. Write to ruin and the world ending! DEATH!! (Are we gonna do it)

Now that I think of it its probley a stupid idea but it vented my anger. TO WAR!!!

Tbh i rather agree with da krimson barun ....... if we had to sign a petition from TLA site members, the one ring and other lotr sites as well as the possibility of many hobbyists from boycotting - I really think that it would go noticed

Not if GW's bottom line is unaffected. Want to influence and pressure GW? Then stop buying from them altogether. Don't get their paints, don't get their models and rulebooks, don't get their tape measures and dice. Stop visiting their stores. Use alternative miniatures, such as historical Anglo Saxon and Vikings for Rohirrim and Dunlendings. Stop attending their tournaments.

When sufficient people do this en masse to affect GW's profits, then and only then will they take notice. Sending them a letter expressing your disgust with their prices one week, then ordering some of the new Hobbit releases the next week because they're cool and the movie is awesome will have zero effect.

Alas, I suspect that GW is probably structured more like a media company nowadays and their primary product is possibly not even figures, its intellectual property. The make-things market supports the "lookit all the cool IP we have" market. The IP is probably monetised in some complicated way.

So a concentrated boycott would affect them, but probably not even that much.

At this point the best bet might be to just quietly leave them be. I am sure there's bit and bobs we'd all like in the future, but there's also a swathe of things we don't have, that's out already that's available on ebay. There are other manufacturers who make figures that look very nice beside LOTR figures. There's Mithril, Dark Sword Miniatures, Thunderbolt Mountain and so on.

Maybe make some sort of "open source" battle game rules, too.

Theres an RPG Skirmish Game called Age of Blood, available free online.
Plus there are plenty of free custom rulesets, including some based on the SBG, published by Google or Yahoo groups. Ask Hithero, hes a member of them IIRC.

I agree, the only way to hurt GW is not to buy their models. However, what I'm seeing from my local store is that they are putting effort into newbies.

Newbies who'll dump a few hundred pounds into an army (and a small army at that), paint a handful of their models, playing for a few months or years, and then most of them will likely lose interest and quit the game altogether within a few years... :|

So in other words, GW's primary market these days...
