Making Rock Faces

Tue Apr 17, 2012 5:24 pm

Hi guys,

My new article was uploaded last night on the site. It's about making rock faces, pretty similar to the ones you've seen in the Khazad-dûm Scourcebook.

It can be found in the Articles section above, but here's the link:
Making Rock Faces [broken link]
Making Rock Faces [working link]

Some of you might already have seen my multi level Dwarven Mines and in there I was requested to make an article on how I made them. I was lucky that I had already made step-by-step pictures years ago for a piece and that I just had to write the text. The technique I described is the one I used for making these Mines, but can be used for any natural rock face you want to create. In fact, you will see some examples of pieces I made using this technique.

Enjoy reading and share me your own projects if you use this technique! :)

Great article, mate, cheers for posting. Impressive stuff. Just wondering, where do you get your roofmate from? I've had a quick look on their website, and it all seems rather expensive.

You can get it at any construction supplies store
Or if you happen to have a construction site nearby you could try to talk them into giving you the bits they cut off and throw out.

I got lucky and got 3 entire sheets my uncle had left over :P

Thanks! Hope you got some inspiration and learned a new way to make rock faces.

Thanks mate! I got my roofmate from my father. He had some 3 or 4 pieces of 1 by 2 meters left after building the extension at the back of the house. :P Lucky me! The stuff is indeed pretty expensive, but I'm guess you should be able to find some affordable shops (maybe near you so you can pick it up, saving on postage).

Yep, you should be able to get it there. Hehe, yeah I was lucky too. Talking to the construction workers also sounds like a plan! You won't need the large pieces anyway (unless you're making a huge rock face of course), the small pieces should often do.

I talked to one of them once about that material, he said he couldn't give me any sheets. I then said that I didn't want full sheets, just the left over bits that they throw out. The guy gave a weird look and said "yeah you can have those.. what for??"
Never remenbered to go there again to get them

I'm not sure, but I think because the site was changed to another host. It will be back though, some day. I do not know when (and I think no one knows).
