Yeah I don't normally have an issue with these things, but it is starting to get a little out of control.
OR has a question to answer before you can get registered. Not hard but not so simple that anyone can get it.

Is anything like this able to happen easily?

Not exactly,
I am kinda thinking about the GW registration. Where there is a few hobby quistions.
This way a spammer bot would get bit confused and answere wrong and it wouldn't be able to access the site.

He knew now why Beregond spoke his name with love. He was a captain that men would follow, that he would follow, even under the shadow of the black wings.

Its a useful link, you should bookmark it. I might do that also. We aren't going to start another spelling discussion, but its for everyone's benefit to have the correct spelling and grammar so there is no confusion. Also, only pirates add the "r" to idea, get the idearrr ? :D

I don't think it would take that much to do, its just that people dislike having to wait for an account to be activated as they want to post something straight away in most cases. I think this is why there is nothing currently, but I am not admin. They do have busy lives and there is a few changes to the site in the works I believe, so I will wait for them to get around to it and just be patient in the meantime.

since all new members have to be approved a short section for you to fill out by hand would indeed make it easier on the approver to spot bots
Not sure how to implement though

The OR's anti-spam measures work 100% successfully. Since implementing that check, the problem has gone away totally. The downside, as Da Krimsun Baron pointed out, is that it doesn't work for iPad users. This is a bit frustrating for a small number of new members, but once you have passed that test, the site works fine on an iPad so it's just a single point of irritation for a small (but growing) number of people and gives a huge benefit to the rest of the community.

@LK If you want to install that mod here, send me a PM and I'll email you the code.
