I am 100x more happy with Numenrean's using cavalry than I am with the Isengard Troll.
Dig through Unfinished tales and Similareons as much as you like and that just never seems to appear.
LOTR: 3000pts ANGMAR, 1200 MINAS TIRITH, 2000 DWARFS, 12000 ELVES. I HAVE A PROBLEM... not enough models.

None of those quotes mention anything about Numenorean cavalry, only that they were skilled riders/hunters (in a peaceful setting?). So they don't contradict themselves. I personally quite like having Numenoreans as an infantry focused army. Not that I'm against cavalry entirely, particularly as the Numenorean heroes can buy them, but I'd prefer any cavalry to be limited to elites or guards. If you have a scarcity of warhorses, then they're probably going to be found with the wealthy or specialised troops.

My suggestion would be an elite Numenorean troop type with heavy armour who can buy a horse/longbow/shield/lance.

Good point Freddie about the Isengard troll.
There must be a lot of stuff that GW invented for the game (or some at least) that can't be really found in the books, but they have become a norm with players during the years. I should have examples of course.

That of course doesn't mean that we shouldn't be careful with the new things we invent.

I think Numenor cavalry is ok, since their kings have horses.

Hi, yes the quotes I posted earlier were concerning their use of archery and steel bows. Here are a few regarding horses. A

Unfinished Tales: The Third Age

‘In Númenor all journeyed from place to place on horseback; for in riding the Númenóreans, both men and women, took delight, and all the people of the land loved horses, treating them honourably and housing them nobly. They were trained to hear and answer calls from a great distance, and it is said in old tales that where there was great love between men and women and their favourite steeds they could be summoned at need by thought alone.’

The Númenóreans were extremely skilled in arts and craft, with the forging of weapons and armour; although they were a peaceful people, their weapons, armour, and horse-riding skills could not be contested anywhere else in Arda, save for the Valar.

The Dúnedain were skilled in riding and loved horses. They could even call them in their thoughts, if bound by friendship. Númenor had no paved roads, so that the carriages could move on them more easily. From the Noldor they learned the art of forging swords, axes, spears, knives, but mostly bows; their arrows resembled dark clouds falling upon the enemies.

The Númenóreans, were skilled in the art of husbandry, breeding great horses that roamed across the open plains in Mittalmar.

Actually the funny thing is it's kind of the other way around! There is writing saying that the Numenorean nobles were so tall they couldn't ride horses in to battle; Elendil was the tallest of Men who escaped the Downfall (7'11" or 2.41 m) while there are places Tolkien mentioned the Numenorean army also using native auxillia troops, especially horsemen.

Of course noone is suggesting taking horse options away from the heroes and captains of numenor, but it could be relevant to discussions about what wargear would be appropriate for Elite Numenoreans.

Please note that this the Numenor Horse Archer has been rolled in to a single Numenorean Cavalry profile, so the conversation continues here:
