And also another tasty treat for those of you lucky enough to make it to San Diego for Comic-Con:
Weta Workshop will develop and market a wide range of authentic prop replicas, collectibles and merchandise based on the upcoming films, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again. The first products in the collection will be unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con at the Weta booth in July 2012, along with a limited number of exclusive pieces that will be available for purchase.

Another update on the film: The premiere is scheduled for November 28,2012 in Wellington, New Zealand.
Gearing up for the global release of “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” the epic adventure will have its world premiere on November 28, 2012 in Wellington, New Zealand. A production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is the first of two films from filmmaker Peter Jackson, the Academy Award-winning director of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, who shot the films concurrently on locations across New Zealand.

Also, its release date is December 14, 2012. The second movie is scheduled to be released on December 13, 2013.
“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” will be released beginning December 14, 2012. The second film, “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” is slated for release the following year, beginning December 13, 2013.

Just last night (day time in NZ I assume) Peter Jackson announced the end of principal photography on the Hobbit. Now just a year and a half of editting and we can die happy :D
