Future Games Workshop releases?

Tue Aug 06, 2013 11:25 am

I was searching the Internet a while ago now, and I found this list of suppposeledly future GW releases for the hobbit. I don't know if any of you have seen this before, or if its been posted before here, but I want your opinion on these miniatures. The one I find is the most intriguing, yet controversial is the Bofur on Fire-Drake.

This article does contain potential spoilers, so I wouldn't risk it if you're not the person who wants to know the plot and characters ahead of time.

I kept this in an open tab since i found it, and look through it whenever new miniatures come out. So far I haven't found any, but that don't make it made up. Most I think are from the second and third films (in my opinion) and some could actually be Games Workshops original ideas. I'll let you decide though :D

Here's the link below;
http://thorinoakenshield.net/tag/legolas/

If you just scroll past the character bios there, it will be there. There's also an external link to more information too!

Yours sincerely, Bofur The Dwarf :D
I started to walk around without shoes...

It then became a sort of a Hobbit :-)

This list has been around for months now and its been mostly discredited. The general consensus seems to be that this list is a combination of the obvious (King Thror), wishful thinking and a silly imagination. I think we'd be lucky to get even half of it all - I don't think the Hobbit is selling well enough for GW to consider dumping so many resources into it in one year.

One thing I know and feel in my heart is that there better not be any other shape changers other than Beorn himself. There are no Beornings yet (I cringe every time I see someone post about wanting Beornings, face palm) and there should not be any. I like the entire concept of him being the last of his kind and his hate of the Orcs and Goblins. To have a whole bunch of them takes away from the character. I am also curious to see how large he will be in human form. If they want to release beornings after the films as an add on force for LOTR that would make more sense.

As for the list, it is rediculous and doesn't fit with any release history GW has ever made. They have never made such complete armies with such thought in one go. They have made silly additions here and there, but to have entire silly lists to make complete forces with is just not in GW's character. This actually looks more like a setup of characters/ groups for a RPG based on the Hobbit.

It may have been a pre-approval list.

We could make these things, which will have these properties, could you approve them for us?
And Middle-earth Enterprises went, sure, sure, sure, no, sure, sure, not a chance, sure and somewhere or other that list got on some other list and leaked online.

Weird little out of context playsets were a thing in the golden era of film merchandising, like Star Wars. So someone could have decided "know what would be awesome? The barrel sequence, as a weird boardgame thing!" and whomever at IP management said: sure, whatever, put it on the list.

Anyway, Middle-earth Enterprises are often quite slow getting around to approvals. They are faster for GW, but I'd suspect they aren't amazing for GW either. So you make a pre-approval list and you can then bring whatever from the list to market, whenever suits.

Well, considering that the Dunedain are now confirmed to use magic in Peter Jacksons Movie Universe, I'd say that there are worse things on that list.

That's the first I hear of that. What exactly are you referring to?
Armies:
Kingdoms of Men(Minas Tirith, Fiefdoms, Arnor), The Free Peoples(Durin's Folk, The Fellowship, The Wanderers in the Wild, The White Council), Mordor, The Fallen Realms(Isengard, Harad and Umbar, The Eastern Kingdoms), Moria & Angmar

During the White Council scene. IIRC, Galadriel states that the Witch King was killed, buried by the Dunedain and his Tomb sealed with "powerful magic".

Just re-watched the scene, and the Dunedain themselves are never mentioned outright -just the "men of the north". It is Elrond that says that the tomb was sealed by a powerful spell, but it is never stated that the spell was cast by Men -although it is implied.
