What bites is, before the sample scene was released there was the anouncement and list of scenes that was availible for like 5 minutes but is now burried 578,000 pages into google search due to all the news about this ONE scene that has been shared on every single fan site and news site in the universe. I know careful digging would turn up more news about what scenes are going to be in the extended cut, but I don't have time to look. :D
I can see whay this scene would be cut, the pace of this film was fairly steady trot with not too much word banging and dramatic speeches. Simple to the point like a dwarf would make. The next having more elves and alot of major character introductions (with background storys that need filling out for story flow) will undoubtedly have more dialog, more drama, and still alot of cool action.
